MADISON COUNTY, Ga. — A man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting at a residence in Madison County, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting on May 17, 2026, at a residence located at 2338 Osley Mill Road in Comer.
Upon arrival, deputies found a white male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as 46-year-old Billy Swafford of Comer, was pronounced dead at the scene after succumbing to his injuries.
Investigators said the suspected shooter was identified by a roommate who knew both the victim and the suspect. Authorities identified the suspect as Jacob Cassidy, who had been staying at the property.
According to the sheriff’s office, Cassidy fled the scene following the shooting. Law enforcement officers conducted an extensive search of the area and later located and apprehended him without incident.
Cassidy was taken into custody and is being held without bond on a murder charge.
The investigation remains active, and no additional information has been released at this time.
